A
new attraction is the Dominica Rain Forest Aerial Tram. When I first
heard about this project, I wondered whether it was beginning of the
Disnification of Dominica. However, single ride was enough to completely
convert me. This whole trip is breathtakingly beautiful, silent and well
worth the $80 US per person fee. You ride in a suspended open gondola
that holds 8 passengers together with a well-qualified guide. It is
completely open and you are right in the trees – among the trunks and
low growth for the first half, and amid the treetop canopy for the
return. As part of the trip you can (and should) get off and walk from
the top station down to the second, a forest walk that includes
crossing a suspension bridge several hundred feet above the Breakfast
River Gorge.

They
railway normally opens on Saturdays and cruise ship days. If you visit
their office in town or give them a call they can tell you which days
they are running. If a cruise ship is on the town docks, ask them about
transportation up. Otherwise you can catch a bus quite close to their
base. A good alternative is to use one of the guides we mention and
combine it with a hike to Titou Gorge or the crater lakes afterwards.
